Peanut butter is life….(for Winston)

Peanut butter – I find it is one of those things you either love or hate. I like peanuts, and I like butter…..but peanut butter, no no not for me thanks. The smell brings back memories of being a child and my brother having it smothered on his toast in the mornings. It now has a more recent memory for me where I went on a self catering holiday with a friend, we were budgeting so decided to do rolls for lunches, I went for traditional ham and cheese and she went for peanut butter – you would of thought she was eating the most expensive lavish meal, she was really enjoying her little tiny finger roll caked in the stuff – I even think she said ‘this is the best roll she’s ever had’ – that’s a pretty big statement to make, perhaps I am missing out on the PB craze.

Anywho, this isn’t about what I like to have in my sandwiches whilst sunning it up abroad. This is about the new found love for Winston. I’m always trying to find new things to put in his Kong. One of his Instagram pals, another Winston (check out his page – @winstonwiggles he is a peanut butter nutter with a super smashing set of nashers!) And we thought it was about time to give some of the gooey stuff a go.

I have a great pet store close by to me called unique pets – and thought I would see if they sold it. I came across the Peamutt Butter for dogs made by Duerr’s. So into the basket it went with everything else I saw along the way that I think Winston might like (this dog gets more treats than I do!)

Well, I got home and put the bag on the floor – of course Winston was head first in there to see what goodies he had. I pulled out the peanut butter, and he sat patiently with his big goggly eyes popping out of his head in desperation to know what it was. Honestly, this smells EXACTLY the same as human peanut butter. If I liked it, I probably would of tried it myself to be honest. I don’t think I need to explain too much about how much Winston liked it – I will show you the pictures instead, as I feel this shows love at first sight in all its glory.

Pure love right?! He now goes nuts (no pun intended) when he see’s the jar! I would definitely recommend this nutty treat for your dog, it is not expensive and has no hidden nasties – and most of all it’s delicious according to Winston! Although, he’s more annoyed the effort he has to put in to get it out of his Kong compared to licking it straight from the jar!

If you are in the Buckinghamshire area I highly recommend Unique Pets. You can find more information on their website – Please click here or check out their Instagram page @unique_pets_

The makers of peamutt butter also do some delicious looking human jams and recipes too! Check out there website Click here

Please note I am not paid or sponsored to blog  – I do it out of my own love for writing my blog on a quiet evening in, relaxing with a glass of wine and a pug curled on my lap. I like to spread (another pun – I just couldn’t help myself) good things when I find them!

Thanks for stopping by – we hope you have a FAB bank holiday weekend! Any comments feel free to leave them below!

Lots of love,

My Doggy Box

It has been AGES since I have posted a blog! It’s that time of year where I get a bit snowed under with everything – trying to complete the year, buy presents, wrap presents, deliver presents (am I secretly Santa?!) and most importantly lots of parties with friends and family – I hope you are all enjoying the festive season!

I LOVE CHRISTMAS TIME. Love it, love it, love it. And there is one very important pooch that is right at the top of my gift list. This year I stumbled across mydoggybox through Instagram. I noticed they were selling lots of fun toys and treats, so I thought when it got to November I would purchase something for Winston’s birthday (because I am one of those people that makes a fuss of their dog on their birthday, even though they will have absolutely no idea…)

I think Winston was pretty chuffed. This was a solid yoghurt birthday cake – you can pick a blue or a pink candle, and it was a great price of £2.50! I broke it into pieces and gave him a bit a day as a treat, no shock to me he gobbled it up in seconds.

Whilst I was buying this, I couldn’t help but look at the crimbo bits! I  also couldn’t resist buying a personalised doggy advant calander that you can fill with your pooches favourite treats! (This is now unavailable to buy, you snooze you lose pals, sorry. Plus we are part way through the month now anyway so your doggy chum would miss out on lots of days, and perhaps if I had actually blogged about this sooner you may of been introduced before they went out of stock…oops sorry!…but hopefully they will be available next year!) He has been enjoying a treat a day from here, needless to say it is obvious why the treats aren’t in the calendar in this picture as it would of turned out as a LOT of treats in ONE day if he could get his paws on it…

Finally, I thought I would get him a gift for Christmas too. You can create your own doggybox full of fabulous treats, toys, outfits and accessories, or you can select one that has been pre made.

Here is what I bought for Winston:

  • A plush squeaky carrot (£3.49)
  • Pigs in blankets (£2.99)
  • A squeaky santa (£1.50)
  • A handmade chocolate & yoghurt xmas pud (£2.25)

I think they are all reasonably priced and are of great quality. All presented in a mydoggybox that can be reused for keeping dog treats in, as a memory box or what ever you like! Another great thing is that they are a corporate sponsor of Dogs Trust and every item purchased from the website, no matter how small, will contribute towards a monthly donation.

It is under the tree ready and waiting to be unwrapped!

An important point to finish on – the human face behind mydoggybox, Amanda (as well as dog’s Dwayne, Rocco and Wilson) the customer service was incredible. I placed my order and minutes later I received a private message to confirm some details of my order, and that Amanda would get it sent out that day! I might add it was also a Saturday – even the big companies out there half the time won’t even look at your order on a Saturday let alone get it posted out to you that day. To me customer service is as important as the gift you are buying….this is what will make people come back. I can assure mydoggybox has a customer for life with Winston and I. I support small businesses when I can, and this is one I would highly recommend.

So what are you waiting for? Go and check them out! (They close on the 16th Dec for Christmas, so get your crimbo order in quick! They reopen again in Jan)

For The Love Of Food…

If you have a pug (or many other breads!) you will know that they love to act like they have been starved for days and are ALWAYS hungry. Cue the *feel sorry for me and share some of your human food* with me face.

I know this look VERY well….

Now, judging by the above photos….this definitely shows my diet isn’t particularly great, or anywhere near healthy (but it is delicious!) However, let’s not focus on my diet right now… (Thank god! We will save that for another day lol). This post is about Winston’s diet. Since I got Winston I was very aware of the stereotypical vision of a pug….to put it simply – fat and rolly. One of the first things the vet discussed with me, was to be aware of his weight. So I continued feeding him on the dry food the breeder had him on – I don’t think Winston was overly keen on it, but of course he still ate it. I found as he was getting older his weight was yo-yoing and he was starting to be a bit more picky with his eating.

I went to my local pet store to see what options I had. Here I was introduced to Natures Menu raw food. This I feel has been one of the best decisions I have made for Winston. He is fed 4 cubes each meal, 3 times a day. Each evening I put 12 cubes in the fridge ready for the next day.

Here are some details of the Natures Menu dog food:

  • Meal sized nuggets with clear serving amounts on the packet
  • Quality ingredients – human grade meat cuts
  • Vet approved
  • Europe’s leading experts in raw food for cats and dogs
  • Wide selection of flavours
  • Country Hunter superfood nuggets – ideal for dogs with sensitive tummies and allergies

What it has done for Winston:

  • Keeps him slim and slender
  • Healthy skin
  • Less hyperactive – more balanced energy
  • Fresher breath
  • Most importantly – he LOVES it. His favourite is the Country Hunter white fish and mackerel

As I said, I try to stay aware of what I feed Winston to keep him fit and healthy. I have had people stop and comment on what good condition and health Winston is in, which is always lovely to hear. I am never shy to share the secrets of his diet, and why that I highly recommend this brand of food for dogs. Maybe I should take some of my own advise and look after my own diet as much as I look after his?!

King’s Dog Treats

We love to support small and new businesses when we can. As a quote I once saw – when you support a small business, you are supporting a dream – and I couldn’t agree more. People often quit the rat race to pursue something they love, meaning starting from scratch, hard work and dedication, and I completely admire them for this.

I am always looking for goodies for Winston (he’s one spoilt pug!) and I often turn to Instagram for recommendations. I stumbled across Kings Dog Treats. The name ‘King’ is the name of their insta famous Rottweiler, who is a gorgeous gentle giant, and he is the inspiration behind the company. Drawn in instantly by their Jammy Dodgers, Bourbon biscuits and Custard Creams – they looked good enough for a human to eat! (Just to clarify I haven’t tried them myself – and all though these are made with high quality human ingredients, I would recommend sticking to the human version biscuits for us! 😆)

Winston has a very sensitive stomach – even though he will eat anything and everything – not all things he eats agrees with him,and dog treats are one of the things he really struggles with. So I headed over to their website to find out more. They have no hidden nasties and give you full details of their high quality ingredients, a whole page dedicated to this! Packed with lots of vitamins and minerals, I decided to order some for Winston to give these tasty looking treats a go. My first order was the Jammy Dodgers.

They arrived a few days later boxed well with disposable cool packs (at the time it was when we had the heatwave! Yes, remember that time when the UK actually experienced raging hot heat?!) The team at Kings got in touch to tell me to keep them stored in the fridge to stop the strawberry middles melting.

Winston LOVED them and more importantly, did not bring them back up! (Too much information?!) We have since ordered the Bourbons and mixed bones, which both again went down a treat.

We are getting close to the end of our last bag, so will be placing another order soon! They have new cheesy pretzels…..Winston loves cheese so they will be on the list! And new personalised biscuits too! What a great Christmas prezzie for some of Winston’s dog pals! (Too early to be talking about Christmas?!)

We highly recommend the guys at King’s Dog Treats, head over to their page to look at all the fab goodies they offer. Sign up to their news letter for all the latest information and any promotional discount codes.

“Love your dog, feed your dog King’s dog treats.”

(Sadly, since writing this blog there seems to of been a problem with Kings Dog Treats. Their website is down, and they have not been active on social media. I am unsure as to why at this point, but I hope that everything is ok their side as they truly were always a great company to deal with, it is a shame that they seem to of disappeared for now.)

Hello Friends!

This is our very first blog! Thank you for taking the time to pop by and have a little read. Please bare with us as we get to grips with the big bold blogging world! We are hoping to share some positivity, review products, places, news and any other bloggy things. Some that will be from my point of view and some from Winston’s (he gives the most honest opinions around) he is very much looking forward to any food reviews that’s for sure!

We currently enjoy spreading the love on Instagram, sharing lots of photos (mainly staring Winston of course!) There is a great, fun loving community on IG and we love being a part of it.

My camera roll is filled by 99.9% of pictures of Winston. But I’m happy with that, a picture of a pug can put a smile on a lot of people’s faces. An ugly but cute face right?! We are all about spreading happiness, yes as pure cheesy as that is. Winston truly makes me smile everyday, and I hope we can add a bit of happiness to your day.

So, again thank you for stopping by. Now we have got the basics set up, we can’t wait to get blogging about all sorts. We hope you enjoy!
